What is Basic Life Support (BLS) Training?

Basic Life Support Training classes could mean the difference between life and death.

The Saskatoon Institute for Medical Simulation is pleased to offer Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health-care Providers course. It is a classroom course that is designed to train health-care professionals to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use an Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

What is included in this course?

The BLS Full Provider Course is four hours in duration, and is a small class size. This video-based, instructor-led course features the Heartsaver® Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Course program containing science from the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC, including single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for in-facility and prehospital settings, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

Who Should Take a BLS Provider / Renewal Course?

The course is designed for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

The SIMS BLS Provider Course is designed for Health Care Professionals and trained first responders as well as those who require BLS certification in order to enter a healthcare profession.

If you have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements, this course is for you.

How am I evaluated?

To successfully complete this course, you must complete the BLS Skills Test and achieve a minimum grade of 84 percent on the (open book) written evaluation.
